I VIRTUOSI ITALIANI
Founded in 1989, I Virtuosi Italiani is one of the most active and acclaimed ensembles on the international music scene. The ensemble has performed in many of the most prestigious venues and for major musical institutions in Italy and abroad, including Teatro alla Scala, Teatro Dal Verme, and Sala Verdi in Milan, the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Teatro Regio di Parma, Arena di Verona, Unione Musicale in Turin, and the Istituzione Universitaria dei Concerti in Rome, among many others. Notable performances include the Concert for the Italian Senate and the “Concerto per la Vita e per la Pace”, held in Rome, Bethlehem, and Jerusalem, broadcast worldwide by RAI. From 2011 to 2024, I Virtuosi Italiani served as ensemble-in-residence with a concert season in Venice at the historic Church of the Ospedale della Pietà. Recently, Arte Concert Klassik recorded a live performance by the ensemble with soloist W. Marshall at the Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza, celebrating the 1600th anniversary of the founding of Venice. The group has toured extensively, performing in France, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, the United Kingdom, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Finland, Slovenia, Russia, Iran, South Korea, the United States and the Baltic countries. Their discography is extensive, comprising over 100 recordings released by leading labels and more than 500,000 copies sold worldwide. In September 2018, they released a recording on the prestigious Deutsche Grammophon label, dedicated to a monograph of Morten Lauridsen, which received a nomination for the 2019 OPUS KLASSIK AWARDS, Germany’s most important classical music prize. In December 2021, I Virtuosi Italiani, conducted by C. Rovaris with tenors L. Brownlee and M. Spyres, were awarded the Diapason d’Or de l’Année 2021 for their Warner Classics-Erato recording Amici & Rivali. The ensemble’s artistic direction centers on its Konzertmeister and First Violin, Alberto Martini.
ERICA PICCOTTI
Born in Rome in 1999, Erica Piccotti is a cellist who has already achieved remarkable milestones in her career. At only 14, she graduated in cello performance with top honors, distinction, and special mention. She made her concert debut at the age of 13 in a live RAI broadcast from Montecitorio, performing with M. Brunello for the Accademia di Santa Cecilia. In 2012, she was awarded the title of Alfiere della Repubblica Italiana by President G. Napolitano for her exceptional musical achievements at a young age. Currently, she maintains an intense concert activity as both soloist and chamber musician. Notable recent appearances include her debut at the Sala Sinopoli of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and at the Teatro Auditorium Manzoni in Bologna with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by M. Laus. Piccotti is the winner of numerous international competitions, including the Premio Nazionale delle Arti as the best cellist among italian conservatories, the Premio Città di Padova, Jugend Musiziert in Nuremberg, the Antonio Janigro International Cello Competition and the Premio Crescendo. She also won the Second Prize at the International Johannes Brahms Competition in Austria and was a semifinalist at the Queen Elisabeth Competition. Among her most prestigious accolades are the ICMA “Young Artist of the Year” Award 2020 and the “Diploma d’Onore” from the Accademia Chigiana in Siena 2019. She studied with F. Storino at the Conservatorio S. Cecilia in Rome, with A. Meneses in Bern, and later with F. Helmerson, also attending the Professional Studies program at the Kronberg Academy. She is currently studying with J.P. Maintz at the Universität der Künste in Berlin. Erica has taken part in numerous international festivals, including Chamber Music Connects the World in Kronberg, the Verbier Festival Academy, the Festival de Cordas e Piano in Brazil, the Festival Paganini in Genoa, among many others. She has performed in major venues such as the Konzerthaus Berlin, Carnegie Hall in New York, Teatro Ponchielli in Cremona, and Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari. As a soloist, she has appeared with leading orchestras including I Solisti di Zagabria, Orchestra La Verdi, Orchestra del Teatro Carlo Felice, and the Orquesta Sinfónica del Estado de México, sharing the stage with distinguished artists such as S. Accardo, M. Brunello, G. Kremer, Sir A. Schiff, and C. Tetzlaff. Erica plays a 1925 Ettore Soffritti cello.
PIETRO MILZANI
Pietro Milzani began studying the violin under Professor L. Andreoli. At the age of 11, he entered the Conservatorio L. Marenzio in Brescia, where he continues his studies with Professor A. Martini, currently attending the second year of the Bachelor program. In 2020, he was admitted to the prestigious Accademia Perosi in Biella to study with P. Berman. He has taken part in master classes with S. Milenkovich, I. Grubert, S. Marcovici, M. Rizzi, C. Rossi, and P. Berman. In December 2021, he won First Prize at the European Music Competition in Moncalieri. In June 2022, he received First Prize at the László Spezzaferri International Chamber Music Competition. That same year, he performed as soloist in Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 3, accompanied by the Orchestra Classica di Alessandria, as a finalist in the under-35 soloist and orchestra category of the Città di Moncalieri Competition, where he was awarded Second Prize. Also in 2022, he won First Prize at the Premio Città di Padova International Competition and was a finalist in both the Claudio Scimone and Rizzardo Bino International Competitions. At just 16, he began collaborating with I Virtuosi Italiani and with the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Brescia and Bergamo Piano Festival. He has also performed with I Cameristi, an ensemble formed by members of the RAI National Symphony Orchestra of Turin. Winner of the Second Prize (first not awarded) at the Music in the Vineyards Competition in Serbia, he was subsequently invited to perform at the Vršac International Chamber Music Festival in September 2023. Pietro plays a Joseph Aloysius Marconcini violin (1814), awarded to him as First Prize at the Attilio Lonardi Competition, reserved for violin students from conservatories in Northern Italy.
