TRIO CONCEPT

The TRIO CONCEPT was formed in 2013 by three young musicians from Turin: Edoardo Grieco (violin), Francesco Massimino (cello) and Lorenzo Nguyen (piano). In the past year, the ensemble was selected as an ECHO Rising Star for the 2025/2026 season and, following a three-week residency at the Verbier Festival Academy in 2024, was awarded the Prix Yves Paternot—the festival’s highest distinction—“for its outstanding talent and artistic excellence.” In June 2023, after passing three competitive rounds and winning the final at London’s Wigmore Hall, the trio became a YCAT Artist. In the same year, it won First Prize at the Schoenfeld International Competition in Harbin (China) and was selected as ensemble in residence by ProQuartet in Paris. In Italy, the Trio Concept (formerly known as Trio Chagall, a name change not of the ensemble’s own choosing) won Second Prize—with First Prize not awarded—and three Special Prizes at the 2019 “Premio Trio di Trieste” International Competition, becoming, at an average age of just twenty, the youngest chamber ensemble ever to be awarded in the history of the Trieste competition. The trio was also chosen by the jury of the Accademia Chigiana as winner of the Giovanna Maniezzo Prize and was subsequently named “Ensemble of the Year 2020/2021” by Le Dimore del Quartetto. The Trio Concept has been supported by the De Sono Association. Edoardo Grieco plays a 1766 violin by Pietro Antonio Landolfi, kindly loaned by Irene Miller and the Beares International Violin Society, while Francesco Massimino performs on the cello Oro del Reno, built in 1948 in Milan by Gaetano Sgarabotto.
